A traffic safety design based on visual tension appears in Santa Monica

Near the western end of Route 66 in the United States, at the famous California tourist destination Santa Monica Beach, the sides of a street have been designed and paved with a wavy pattern. The dark gray and light yellow colors are arranged in parallel, creating a strong sense of visual tension from afar. On both sides of the street are entrances to large parking lots, with a constant flow of pedestrians. The wavy patterned road surface is undoubtedly for traffic safety. As pedestrians cross the street, the longitudinal visual effect resembles wave after wave, subconsciously drawing attention to the surroundings. When vehicles turn in and out of the parking lot or when drivers shift their viewpoint, the ground appears visually as if it is floating and soft, causing them to slow down and proceed cautiously—an inevitable, compelling reaction.
